F. GARY GRAY is recognized as one of the industry’s most prolific and versatile directors, known for consistently pushing the envelope, spotting new trends and talent, and delivering innovative exciting entertainment to a diverse audience. Gray most recently directed and produced the critically acclaimed biopic Straight Outta Compton, which follows the birth of the gangsta rap group NWA. The box-office smash was produced by Gray (PGA), Dr. Dre and Ice Cube and released on August 14, 2015 by Universal Pictures. The film broke records with an opening weekend gross of over $60 million domestically and was #1 at the box-office for three weeks in a row. To date, Straight Outta Compton has made over $160 million at the domestic box-office making Gray the highest-grossing African-American director and $200 million total worldwide.
At the 2015 Catalina Film Festival, Gray was the recipient of the Stanley Kramer Social Artist Award. The award honors a film professional whose work embodies Stanley Kramer’s qualities of social consciousness within their artistry while taking risks to create and influence a social transformation. 2015 also brought an abundance of award recognition to the director / producer. Straight Outta Compton was nominated for PGA Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, Black Reel Outstanding Motion Picture, Image Awards Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture (Theatrical), MTV Movie Awards Best Picture, and People Choice Awards Favorite Dramatic Movie, and won AFI Movie Of The Year, African-American Film Critics Association Best Picture, All Def Movie Awards Best Picture, Image Awards Outstanding Motion Picture, and MTV Movie Awards Best True Story.
Gray produced the upcoming film The Sea of Trees which was directed by Academy Award Nominee Gus Van Sant and stars Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey and Academy Award Nominee Naomi Watts. The drama, which had its premiere in competition at Cannes this year, follows the story of a suicidal American who befriends a Japanese man lost in a forest near Mount Fuji and together, the two search for a way out. The film was acquired by Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate.

Jackson; award-winning heist picture Set It Off (New Line) with Jada Pinkett Smith and Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Queen Latifah; and Friday (New Line), which launched the extremely popular Friday film franchise starring rapper-producer Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.
Gray is also a leading member of his community and has been an active supporter of numerous organizations, which include the Tom Bradley Youth & Family Center, My Friend’s House Foundation, and Urban Compass, among others. He has received multiple commendations from the city of Los Angeles for his Philanthropic work.
